2nd Chance Motorsports owner Rick Russell involved in accident

Rick Russell, owner of 2nd Chance Motorsports, was involved in a two-vehicle traffic accident Tuesday in North Carolina while traveling en route to Texas for the upcoming race weekend. Russell confirmed the crash to Skirts and Scuffs guest writer Melissa Jimerson-Wright on Wednesday.

According to Russell, he was driving the team's Nationwide rig at approximately 1 p.m. Tuesday when he slammed on the brakes and rear-ended another vehicle on Interstate 85. No one was injured in the accident, he said. Russell said he was cited for failure to control speed. It was his first traffic citation in 12 years.

Russell said he reported the citation to NASCAR, which is standard procedure. The Nationwide team owner had to use another team's rig because his was damaged in the accident. Russell noted that insurance will cover the damages. Russell arrived at Texas Motor Speedway on Wednesday morning.

The No. 79 Ford of 2nd Chance Motorsports is entered in Friday's O'Reilly Auto Parts 300 Nationwide race at Texas with driver Tim Andrews. The car will have to qualify on time to make the race.
