Sprint Cup Series rookie of the year candidate Alex Kennedy, driver of the No. 33 Chevrolet SS for Circle Sport Racing, began his racing career on two wheels, racing BMX bikes beginning at age 5. Find out a few more Fast Facts on this young driver this week.
  • Alex Kennedy was born Feb. 2, 1992 in Aztec, New Mexico. In addition to racing BMX bikes as a youngster, he got into a quarter midget for the first time at age 8 in 2000. Kennedy moved up to Bandoleros in 2003 and 2004, winning the New Mexico points title both years and winning the Silver State Cup at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 2004.
  • In 2004, Kennedy also began racing Legends cars, collecting 12 top 10 finishes, including a win, in 13 INEX Legends starts. In 2005, he won 11 national, regional, state and local track championships in Legends cars, becoming the youngest New Mexico state champ ever.
  • Kennedy moved into a stock car for the first time in 2006, racing Late Models and winning in his first ever start. In 2008, at age 16, he ran in numerous stock car series, including ARCA, K&N Pro Series East and K&N Pro Series West. In 2009, he was a full-time driver on the K&N Pro Series East circuit, collecting three top 10 finishes in 11 starts and finishing 10th in points.
  • In 2010, Kennedy made his Nationwide (now Xfinity) Series debut; in 15 starts in the series, Kennedy has a best finish of 15th at the road course in Montreal in 2012. He made his Sprint Cup Series debut in 2013; he has a career-best finish of 28th at Pocono in August 2014.
