Fast Facts: Corey LaJoie

Corey LaJoie is another one of the many young NASCAR Cup Series stars coming from a NASCAR pedigree: his father, Randy, was the Xfinity Series champ in 1996 and 1997. Learn more about one of the drivers of the No. 72 for TriStar Motorsports in this week’s Fast Facts.

• Corey Daniel LaJoie was born Sept. 25, 1991 in Charlotte, NC. He began racing karts in 1996, winning 19 races on asphalt and dirt tracks. In 2003, he won 12 times and picked up the championship in the Summer Shootout Series in INEX Bandoleros, then moved into Legends cars in 2005. In 2006, LaJoie won 10 of 12 races in the Aaron’s Pro Challenge Series.
• After spending 2007-2009 in the UARA-Stars Late Model Touring Series, LaJoie made his NASCAR debut in the Camping World East Series (now K&N Pro Series East) in 2009. He won his first series race in 2012 at famed Bowman-Gray Stadium and went on to finish second in points that year.
• LaJoie – a member of the 2012 NASCAR Next class which also included Ryan Blaney, Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott – ran a part-time schedule in 2013, having success in the ARCA Racing Series with wins at Chicagoland and Pocono.
• LaJoie made his Cup Series debut in 2014 in the fall race at New Hampshire, also competing at Charlotte that year from Randy Humphrey Racing. He didn’t return to the Cup Series until 2017 with BK Racing, where he picked up a career-best 11^th-place finish at Daytona in July.
• LaJoie has also competed in the Xfinity Series for Richard Petty Motorsports (2013), Biagi-DenBeste Racing (2014) and JGL Racing (2016-2017), and two races in the Camping World Truck Series for RBR Enterprises (2014).
