Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to Skirts and Scuffs, a site out to debunk the stereotype of female race fans. If you are new here, please take a few minutes to read this list of questions we get asked the most. Hopefully it will fill you in on what we are all about, along with some other interesting facts about the site.
  • What do you mean by “debunking the stereotype of female race fans?” It’s a common misconception that women are only into NASCAR or other forms of racing because 1) Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kasey Kahne (or whomever) are hot and we think we might have a chance to be that lady on their arm in victory lane. 2) Our boyfriends/husbands are into racing so we might as well get in on it too. We can’t let those cars driving in circles steal our man’s attention. This in fact is not the case for most female race fans. Sure, we might have our fangirl moments from time to time, but for the most part we are fans for the same reason the guys are – because it’s exciting, there’s speed and even danger. We like it for the technology and the personalities of the drivers. We like it for those guys behind pit wall giving it their all to get their driver out ahead of the pack and for the man behind the wheel who puts his life on the line to drive at 200 miles per hour.
  • So you are a feminist site? Nope, we aren’t about burning our bras or promoting girl power. We are about giving women who love racing an outlet where they can share that love with fans of all sexes.
  • Who founded Skirts and Scuffs and when was the site founded? Skirts and Scuffs was founded in October 2009, but it wasn’t until February 2010 that the site began to get serious about promotion and original content. As for our founder, you can blame this on Katy Lindamood. Katy is a freelance writer and blogger who got the idea one night and on a whim started the site. She’s still amazed at the response from women who wanted to get involved. Katy’s our site administrator, but the site is a joint effort between each and everyone of our contributors.
  • How many writers does the site have? At the beginning of the 2010 NASCAR season Skirts and Scuffs had approximately two dozen active contributors.
  • What makes your writers worth reading? First and foremost, each and everyone of our contributors is a NASCAR fan. Some have been following the sport for as long as they can remember while others are newbies. We have writers with different backgrounds and from all over the United States contributing to the site. Some writers are first-time bloggers who are still in high school while others are full-time freelancers. As long as you are a woman, you are welcome to contribute to the site.
  • Do you let men contribute? Nope. Sorry, this is Skirts and Scuffs. If we let men contribute it would defeat the purpose. Men are welcome to read, comment or even become part of our forum. That’s as far as it goes. Sorry guys.
  • What can I expect to see on Skirts and Scuffs as far as content? Skirts and Scuffs hopes to become a one-stop shopping site for the NASCAR fan. We provide a mix of press releases, news and opinion articles.
  • Are you on Twitter? We love Twitter. Nearly all of our writers use it. You can follow @SkirtsandScuffs on Twitter. You can also find us on Facebook by searching for Skirts and Scuffs.
  • How do I become part of the team? We are always looking for new contributors. If you are interested, just send an e-mail to admin@skirtsandscuffs.com and we will get back to you as quickly as possible.
