'Stone Cold' to wave green flag at Auto Club 500
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, CALIF. (Feb. 18, 2010) – Former WWF wrestling superstar "Stone Cold" Steve Austin will serve as Honorary Starter for the Auto Club 500 on Sunday, Feb. 21, at Auto Club Speedway.
Austin, starring in the upcoming 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment film “Damage,” which will be released on DVD on March 23, will get NASCAR’s West Coast Premiere under way on Sunday.
“Having been a NASCAR fan for years, it is a real honor to be chosen to waive the Green Flag at Sunday’s race. I can think of no better place to introduce my upcoming FOX film DAMAGE than at the Auto Club Speedway in front of tens of thousands of screaming race fans!” Austin said.
In “Damage,” Ex-con John Brickner (Austin) turns to the world of underground fighting and a shot at a lucrative prize purse to help raise money for a little girl’s heart transplant.
Austin, who was one of the most marketable and well-known wrestlers in history, became known for his constant spats with management. He retired from wrestling in 2003 as a six-time WWF champion and as the only person to have ever won the Royal Rumble three times.
The Auto Club 500 will be broadcast at noon PT (3 p.m. ET) on FOX.
For information on tickets for the Auto Club 500, call 800-944-RACE (7223) or visit www.autoclubspeedway.com.
