NASCAR Hall of Fame nominee spotlight: Buck Baker

Buck Baker became a NASCAR legend early on and was a fixture in NASCAR pretty much from the start, beginning his career in the sport in 1949. He went on to become the first driver to ever claim consecutive Cup-level titles, doing so in 1956 and 1957.

Those two championships came during a four-year span (1955-1958) in which Baker finished no lower than second in the season-ending points standings, finishing second the year before and the year after his two championship seasons. Aside from two championships, Baker also has 46 wins in 636 starts to his credit, ranking him 14th on the all-time win list.

For his efforts and success, Baker was named one of NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers in 1998, an honor he shared with son and fellow-NASCAR driver, Buddy Baker.
