Conway to run Budweiser Shootout in No. 97 Camry, will attempt Daytona 500
Charlotte, N.C. (January 24, 2011) – The 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rookie-of-the-Year driver, Kevin Conway, and ExtenZe Racing officially announced today on Sirius-XM Satellite Radio’s ‘The Morning Drive’ show on NASCAR Channel 128 that they have teamed up with driver/owner Joe Nemechek and Nemco Motorsports to kick-off the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.
With this announcement, Conway will be behind the wheel of the No. 97 ExtenZe Racing Toyota Camry at this year’s Daytona Speedweeks. He will compete in the Bud Shootout alongside NASCAR’s biggest stars and the Gatorade Duels where he will attempt to make the 43 car-field for the 53rd running of the Daytona 500.
The Lynchburg, Va. Native, heads into the 2011 NASCAR season coming off a 2010 campaign that saw his name etched in NASCAR’s record books by becoming the 54th driver in the history of NASCAR to capture the Sprint Cup Series Rookie-of-the-Year championship. On his way to that feat Conway captured top Rookie honors in every race he competed in becoming the first Rookie driver to do so while setting a record of 29 Rookie-of-the-Race awards.
He also returns to Daytona where he secured a career best finish of 14th in the 2010 July race that gave Front Row Motorsports its best finish ever since the teams inception back in 2005.
“Getting to run in the Bud Shootout and attempt to make the Daytona 500 has been a life long dream of mine and I am pleased to get this opportunity to do so with Nemco Motorsports,” said Conway. “ExtenZe and I initially worked with Joe back in 2009 running a few races in the Nationwide Series and we are excited to get back to where it all started. We worked well together in the Nationwide Series and look forward to building upon that success at Daytona Speedweeks this year and hopefully beyond,” added Conway.
“Nemco Motorsports is happy to make this announcement today and we are looking forward to kicking the 2011 season off with Kevin Conway and ExtenZe Racing,” said Nemechek. ”We first worked with them in 2009 running in the Nationwide Series for five races and are pleased to be realigning ourselves with NASCAR’s-Rookie of-the-Year and ExtenZe again hoping for even better success this season. After Daytona we hope to be able to work out some further details to add some additional races with Conway,” added Nemechek.
