Fast Facts: Kimi Raikkonen

Kyle Busch Motorsports recently signed 2007 Formula One World Champion Kimi Raikkonen to drive a limited schedule in the Camping World Truck Series. Before Raikkonen makes his NASCAR debut at the NC Education Lottery 200 on May 20 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, here are a few facts about the Finnish driver:

  • Kimi-Matias Raikkonen was born October 17, 1979 in Espoo, Finland. He began racing karts at age 10 and by age 20 won the British Formula Renault winter series. In 2001, he signed with the Stauber Formula One team.
  • From 2002 to 2006, Raikkonen drove for McLaren; in 2003 and 2005, he was the runner-up for the drivers’ championship.
  • Raikkonen joined Ferrari in 2007 and immediately paid dividends for the team. In his first race he won the pole, turned the fastest lap and won the Australian Grand Prix. He ended the year with five more wins and the World Drivers' Championship.
  • In 2010, Raikkonen moved on to World Rally Championship driving for the Citroen Junior Team.
  • In 2011, Raikkonen started his own rally team - ICE 1 Racing (Raikkonen’s nickname is “Iceman”); ICE 1 also fields a team in the World Motocross Championship.
  • Raikkonen is married to former Miss Scandinavia Jenni Dahlman; the couple lives in Switzerland. His brother Rami is also a rally driver.
