It was a difficult race for points leader Johnny Sauter, he and Nelson Piquet Jr. made contact, resulting in major damage to the No. 13 truck. From there, his night got worse, multiple flat tires and trips to pit road resulted in a 29th place finish. Sauter fell to second in points, –12 behind James Buescher.
Race highlights and lowlights:
- Ricky Carmichael starts on pole, his first career NASCAR pole
- lap 20 – Cole Whitt (60) had an engine blow up to bring out the first caution
- lap 38 – Johanna Long (20) and BJ McLeod (78) collide as McLeod was slowing to head to pit road to bring out another caution
- lap 60 – Johnny Sauter (13) has an accident in Turn 2 after just have a flat tire just laps before, caution #3
- lap 73 – caution #4 for debris on the frontstretch
- lap 79- Timothy Peters (17) spins on the frontstretch for the fifth and final caution. Bizarre thing to note: after an earlier battery change, as Peters spun, one of the batteries slid across pit road. One of the strange things I noticed.
