Katie Kenseth, wife of NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth, was injured in a crash during practice for a charity race Monday evening at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The wife of the 2003 Sprint Cup champion broke her shoulder blade.

Kenseth was practicing a Bandolero car for the upcoming Better Half Dash when she crashed into the pit stop wall. Kenseth was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was treated and released, according to the Associated Press.

Charlotte, N.C., news channel WCNC posted pictures of the wreck on its website. Some photos show Matt Kenseth running over to the racecar and at his wife’s side as she is lying on a stretcher.

Matt Kenseth tweeted on his official Twitter account Monday night, “That didn't turn out so well. Katie and I are home, she has a broken scapula and some bumps and bruises. Thanks for all the well wishes.”

Earlier in the evening, Kenseth had tweeted a photo of his wife in her firesuit, standing next to her racecar before the practice session.

Katie Kenseth is one of a group of NASCAR drivers’ wives and girlfriends scheduled to participate in the Oct. 15 Better Half Dash, a 25-lap race on the frontstretch quarter-mile track to run prior to the Bank of America 500 Sprint Cup race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The event will benefit Speedway Children’s Charities and Motor Racing Outreach.
