KHI will not participate in the NCWTS in 2012

News came this morning at a morning press availability that Kevin Harvick Inc., KHI, will no longer be participating in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2012 and beyond.

During his time speaking to the media, Harvick said: “It’s just a tough model business-wise. We’ve scrimped and scraped and got the sponsorship and things you need. General Motors has been a great supporter, but from a business standpoint, sometimes you have to make decisions on what you want to do. It just doesn’t make sense.”

KHI will now serve as a headquarters for Harvick's personal business operations and his fan club but will no longer be involved with race vehicles since the merger with RCR was announced.

It seems Harvick is looking forward to the changes. He went onto say, “This will allow me to spend more time with our Cup team. It takes an extreme amount of pressure off me as a driver and owner. When you look at the personal time we get back, it’s a tremendous amount of time. There are way more positives in the whole thing than there are negatives. It’s been a lot of work.

“There were no financial issues. We were making it all work, but sometimes you feel like you have to get something out of it. In the end, it’s business.”

What's next for the 140 employees of KHI? Since the merger between KHI and Childress, Harvick said that some workers will be able to find jobs over at RCR.

Kevin and DeLana Harvick started KHI back in 2001, his first full-tine season in the Sprint Cup Series. Since then they have been a force to be reckoned with on the track. With Ron Hornaday, they boast two NCWTS titles to their name.
