Ryan Newman Continues Success at NHMS with Fastest Practice Lap

Earning his only victory of the season after starting from the pole in the last NASCAR Sprint Cup Series visit to New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Ryan Newman stole the show in the first practice for the NSCS’s second visit to the track.

Newman, driver of the No. 39 Haas Automation Chevrolet, posted a lap time of 28.473 seconds at a speed of 133.769 mph.

Currently ranked seventh in the Sprint Cup standings, Newman’s only victory this season came in July in the Lenox Industrial Tools 301 at NHMS.

He also has two poles, eight top 5s and 14 top 10s. The top 5 in initial practice included Newman as well as Kasey Kahne (28.500 seconds), Jeff Gordon (28.520 seconds), Jimmie Johnson (28.553 seconds) and Juan Pablo Montoya (28.561 seconds).

The 12 Chase drivers ranked as follows in the first NSCS practice of the day: Ryan Newman (first), Gordon (third), Johnson (fourth), Kevin Harvick (11th), Tony Stewart (14th), Brad Keselowski (15th), Denny Hamlin (19th), Dale Earnhardt Jr. (20th), Kyle Busch (23rd), Matt Kenseth (25th), Carl Edwards (26th) and Kurt Busch (32nd).
