NASCAR In Heels: Profiling with shades

The Great American Sport through the eyes of a single girl

Every weekend all of the NASCAR drivers have to wear their trademark firesuits, and hats from their sponsors. They really have no choice when it comes to their fashion, except for their sunglasses. I understand many of them are sponsored by companies such as Oakley and Wiley X, but they can still pick their style! I have done some research to see how a man’s choice of sunglasses relates to their personality, and the following drivers have it nailed down to a tee.

Basic Black Rectangle Frames: These are the classic. He’s a classy, guy’s guy, but pretty average. Most of the drivers have this style of sunglasses, like Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton, Denny Hamlin, Matt Kenseth, David Ragan, Dale Earnhardt Jr, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. That’s just a few, this list is very long! I will admit, these glasses look great, but almost every guy in America wears glasses like these. When wearing these glasses they are “playing it safe;” I like a guy who can take a risk and pull off some stylish frames!

Aviators or Metal Frames: A guy who wears aviators is super masculine, sophisticated, and exudes self- confidence. He means business. This style is becoming increasingly popular, especially with the truck series drivers! However, you would think with this description there would be many more drivers wearing these! Parker Kligerman, Nelson Piquet Jr, Austin Dillon, Jeff Gordon, and Brian Vickers all look awesome in this style! These “pilot” style glasses make a guy look like such a gentleman! I love them!

Large or Over-sized: It takes a bold and confident person to wear large frames. Kyle Busch, Paul Menard, Aric Almirola, Jimme Johnson and Kasey Kahne all rock the big glasses! Not all guys can pull this style off, so I give these drivers props for doing just that. If the larger the frame, the bolder the person, Kyle should have the biggest glasses in the garage! We have to watch though; guys who wear these may get a bit cocky.

White Frames: First thing that comes up here? Douchebag. This guy is arrogant and full of himself; he needs to be noticed, typical douche. White frames are very flashy and just scream, “look at me.” I’m going to give Elliott Sadler the benefit of the doubt here; I don’t think he’s this type of guy. Juan Pablo Montoya, however, seems to fit this profile a bit better. Just take this as a warning; those white glasses are definitely a “red flag!”

Wayfarers or Square Frames: The dude who sports these is fun loving, carefree, and nonchalant. These are very popular with the younger drivers. Trevor Bayne and Ricky Carmichael wear these on a regular basis and they look fine! Kasey Kahne was also wearing this style this year. They are super fun and both Trevor and Ricky appear to fit this profile perfectly, but Kasey comes off a bit more on the shy side. Either way, these glasses look good, and show style and personality!

Next weekend when you’re watching the races, take a look at the drivers’ sunglasses You will be surprised how well they fit with most of the drivers! This theory could also be useful with guys in general, Big=Bold, Wayfarer=Way too much fun, White=Goodnight!

Which driver has the best sunglasses in the garage? Let us know your thoughts!
