NASCAR In Heels: Revs into the season with style

Now that the Daytona 500 is right around the corner, and everyone will begin traveling to the races each weekend, I am going to give you a few ideas for some outfits to wear to the track. Although the typical “fan gear” is not my style; there is nothing wrong with that. However, I am going to stray away from that type of clothing, and of course, bring some style to the track!

Depending on the time of year you are going to a race, and where you are going, the wardrobe you choose will differ vastly. I have focused more on the “summery” outfits, as most of the time the climate is quite warm.
I’m starting off with a cute, casual outfit consisting of a simple pair of twill shorts and a cardigan just in case you get a little chilly. These are pieces you can find almost anywhere these days. I topped it off with a set of bangles from Forever 21. Now you may be a little shocked to see flat sandals here. I understand that heels are not for everyone, and I do like to wear shoes like these as well. These sandals in particular are from American Eagle Outfitters.

Next up is an outfit that I would call a bit more “classic.” These dark cropped jeans are from American Eagle Outfitters. The blouse is from H&M and is nice and light, I would tuck this into the pants. Again, you never know how the weather will pan out, so I have found a flowy cardigan sweater to pair with this outfit. This bangle is the perfect way to add some “race-iness” to the outfit! The checked pattern will totally fit in at the track! The bangle, as well as the sunglasses are both from Forever 21. I added a simple pair of Nine West pumps to the outfit. That nice pair of heels is just like the cherry on top of the sundae!

For this last outfit I have included a dress. Dresses are so comfy, and you don’t have to worry about finding another article to match with them. It’s an outfit in itself. Wear it with this cute denim jacket and you will be good to go. The set of bangles I have included are again from Forever 21. As for the footwear, I found these wedges on Zappos.com. They should be the type of heel most women would be comfortable wearing. It’s just little.

So there are a few cute, stylish, yet simple outfit ideas for you this season! Now I’m going to move onto an accessory that I have failed to mention. A purse! I am not too sure about all of you, but I cannot go anywhere without my purse. I strongly believe in Carrie Bradshaw’s quote, "I’m thinking balls are to men, what purses are to women. It’s just a little bag but we’d feel naked in public without it." Totally true right?

Anyways, I always like a crossbody style bag for at the track. This way your hands are free to take pictures, get autographs, you know, all that fun stuff. They are usually a fairly small bag, but you really only need the bare necessities, and by that I mean, wallet, camera, lip-gloss, and cell phone. If you have room I would suggest bringing some sunscreen. Also, a small hand sanitizer, like the ones from Bath & Body Works, would be a good to have. Germaphobe or not, I don’t care how clean the porta-potties are, or how well the portable sinks work, I like to have some sanitizer!

So there you have it, all set for the races! To end off, I am going to give you a few pointers in regards to what NOT to wear at the track. I am sorry to say it, but there are some definite fashion offenders roaming around there. All I have is three little tips:
  1. The racetrack is NOT the club! This is not the place to wear your skimpy dress, or backless top! Come on, what are you trying to prove by wearing something like this?
  2. Leave the spanky-style booty shorts at home. I am not too sure about all of you, but I prefer not to show my ass off in public. This point in particular reminds me of one of my all time favorite quotes. Marilyn Monroe said, “Your clothes should be tight enough to show you're a woman, but loose enough to show you're a lady.” Words to live by right there.
  3. Last, bikini tops are NOT shirts. I do not know what possesses one to believe that something that may be skimpier than your bra will suffice as a shirt, especially when at a public event. I’ll put it this way, if there isn’t any water, or a beach around, do us all a favor and put a shirt on!
Whether you are traveling this race season or not, I hope these tips help you out. I know I have already included a couple of quotes here, but this last one from Alicia Keys is definitely one to remember; “The most important thing to remember is that you can wear all the greatest clothes and all the greatest shoes, but you’ve got to have a good spirit on the inside. That’s what’s really going to make you look like you’re ready to rock the world.” It’s all about what’s on the inside, but it is still always fun to make the outside look nice.
