Jimmie Johnson and Hendrick Motorsports got their last win at Kansas in October 2011. Will HMS get that elusive 200th win this weekend? Todd Warshaw/Getty Images for NASCAR |
The 1.5-mile track added a second NASCAR race weekend - a spring event - last year. In 2012, the race weekend was moved up from June to April to give the track more time to undergo a repave and reconfiguration.
This weekend marks the last time drivers will race on the original racing surface. After Sunday's STP 400, the Kansas City speedway, built in 2001, will repave the oval, add variable banking - about 18 to 20 degrees in the corners - and a road course in the infield. The progressive banking should help improve passing at the intermediate track.
Kansas is notorious for fuel-mileage races. Will the Sprint Cup race come down to fuel Sunday?
