Travel Tips: Bristol Motor Speedway



“It’s Bristol Baby!” Race fans will hear a lot of that prior to this week’s upcoming races.  Bristol Motor Speedway will play host to a triple-header of night races. The NASCAR Camping World Truck, Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series will make their presence known in Bristol, TN.   

For this week’s edition of Travel Tips, I will give you information about local attractions and recreational activities to explore before the evening races. There are a number of things to do and see, so I encourage you to check out this fantastic area.

Local Attractions/Parks/Recreation:
 
Andrew Johnson National Historic Site is located in Greeneville, TN approximately 50 minutes from the speedway. This national landmark showcases the life and legacy of our 17th United States President. Some of the highlights include the President’s early home, homestead and replica of his birth home. Admission is FREE. Days and Hours of Operation.

Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium is a 3500-acre, city-owned nature preserve park located in Kingsport, TN, which is approximately 30 minutes from the speedway. This park features a 44-acre lake, nature center with state of the art planetarium and several animal habitats. Admission and Hours of Operation.

Bristol Caverns is one of the most visited tourist areas in Bristol, TN. It consists of a three level tour which takes you 180 feet below the Underground River.  Days and Hours of Operation.

Cherokee National Forest is located in the eastern TN mountains and stretches over 650,000 acres of forest land.  There are over 600 miles of trails, 150 miles of which are a part of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.  You can bike, fish, hike, swim or whitewater raft in specified areas of the forest.
