Travel Tips: Charlotte Motor Speedway Fan Edition



The NASCAR Nationwide (Dollar General 300) and Sprint Cup (Bank of America 500) Series will be showcasing a double-header weekend of night racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway. After last week’s unprecedented demolition derby in Talladega, on the final lap, the drivers are looking forward to some home track racing.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck (Kroger 200) Series will return on Oct. 27 for some exciting short track racing at Martinsville Speedway.

This week’s Travel Tips will consist of fan event information that will give you an option of things to participate in during the race weekend.

-Charlotte Motor Speedway Fan Events:  

Thursday, Oct. 11: 
  • 2nd Annual Better Half Dash (5:30 p.m.) – The NASCAR girlfriends and wives along with several notable correspondents will take to the racetrack in Bandeleros to participate in this 25-lap charity race. The event will take place on the quarter mile frontstrech of the speedway and will include a competition caution at Lap 15 along with a final 10-lap shootout. All proceeds will support both Motor Racing Outreach (MRO) and the Speedway Children's Charities.  The winner of the race will have $10,000 donated in their name towards her favorite charity.   • NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour Series Autograph Session (6:20-7:40 p.m.) –This event will take place at Concourse 5 A. Driver Appearances: TBA 
  • Bojangle’s Pole Night - NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Qualifying  (7:10 p.m.)  
  • UNOH Southern Slam 150, NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour Series Race (8:30 p.m) – This will be the final race of the 2012 season for these drivers and defending race winner of this event, driver Tim Brown, is looking to capture the checkered flag.
Friday, Oct. 12:
  • NASCAR Nationwide Series Kid’s Autograph Session (1:00-2:00 p.m.) – This event will take place in the Ford Grandstand. Driver Appearances will include Elliott Sadler, Danica Patrick and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Special Guest Appearance by the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  
  • Dollar General 300, NASCAR Nationwide Race (7:30 p.m.) – After this event, there will be four more races left in the 2012 season for this series. The current points leader, Elliott Sadler, is looking to stretch out his lead over second place Ricky Stenhouse Jr. who is currently sitting nine points outside of the top spot.  
Saturday, Oct. 13: 
  • Charlotte Motor Speedway Pace Car Rides (11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) 
  • Speedway Children’s Charity Track Walk (1:00-2:00 p.m.)
  • National Country Recording Artists Big & Rich Infield Concert (4:30-5:15 p.m.) – For additional information, click here.  
  • Bank of America 500, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race (7:30 p.m.) – This will be the fifth race of the Sprint Cup playoff series and after last week’s scrap metal conclusion there are a number of drivers looking for a great finish at their home track. The point standings changed dramatically outside of the top three drivers (Keselowski, Johnson & Hamlin) so it will be interesting to see if “The Beast of the Southeast” causes another shakeup.
