After a year of anticipation, NASCAR’s sixth generation Sprint Cup Series car made its debut on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway for day one of a three-day session at the historic track. The novel cars, new faces in different places and the general excitement of seeing cars on the track brought smiles to those who dread the quiet winter months without NASCAR.

Topping the morning practice session was Matt Kenseth in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry. Kenseth’s top speed of 192.757 bested the 34-car field. Beard-sporting Marcos Ambrose had the fastest Ford while Danica Patrick was quickest in the new Chevy SS.
