Four-Time World of Outlaws Thunderbowl Winner Saldana Ready To Stand On The Gas

TULARE, Calif. (March 11, 2013) – The World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series continues its swing through the West Coast making its next stop at Thunderbowl Raceway for two nights of action March 15 and 16.

Joey Saldana, driver of the Motter Equipment Fatheadz Eyewear 71M sprint car, is a four-time winner at Tulare (2007, 2009, 2010, 2011), the World of Outlaws driver with the most victories at this track.

Currently fifth in World of Outlaws point standings, coming off consecutive podium finishes in Las Vegas and Tucson, Ariz., Saldana is enthusiastic about the team’s performance.

“Dan Motter (team owner) and I put this team together in 45 days prior to the start of the season,” explained Saldana. “I mean we started from scratch. We didn’t even have a funnel to pour fuel in the tank. We have a veteran crew chief and very experienced crew members, but the missing element for us was that we didn’t have a notebook to consult with our new chassis and tune-up combination, plus everyone is on new Hoosier tires this season.

“Davey Whitworth (crew chief) and I have to communicate closely. Now when I describe what the car is doing, he’s observing the same thing, so we are on the same wave length. Davey has been excellent with the car set-up these past couple of races. We have been fast and consistent.

“Now we’re looking for a win. We were very close at our last race in Tucson, winning the dash and finishing second in the Feature.

“Conditions at every track are different and weather can play a big part in how dry or sticky the track is. Davey’s experience is invaluable.

“I have won in Tulare before so that gives us a confidence boost going into these two nights of racing. Thunderbowl Raceway is a great facility and I love racing there. I can’t wait to get the weekend started.”

Saldana placed fourth in 2012 World of Outlaws Sprint Car point standings. He has an impressive 83 career wins, placing him seventh in all-time victories for the category.

In addition to Motter Motorsports, Dan Motter owns Motter Equipment, a global supplier of mining and construction equipment and component parts for surface mining and construction industries with corporate offices near Hibbing, Minn.
