CRA Sprints Head For Yuma
Nic Faas and Damion Gardner will lead the AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint cars to Cocopah Speedway in Yuma, Arizona for back-to-back races April 19-20. The two Mark Alexander team drivers completed a 1-2 “sweep” of last Saturday night’s 30-lap feature at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway and Faas emerged with a four-point lead over the 2005 champion.
Faas trailed David Cardey for the first 28 laps in the “Power of Purple Night” race at the half-mile dirt oval, then took the lead exiting turn four on the white flag lap in his Scott Sales Company/CSI Shocks Spike/J & D. Trailing the Huntington Beach, Calif. driver at the finish were Gardner, Cardey, who ran short on fuel in the closing laps, Ryan Bernal and Cody Williams.
The Cocopah races will be the second for AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprints at the 3/8-mile dirt track. Brody Roa won last year’s debut.
Saturday’s win was Faas’ seventh in series competition. Gardner holds the all-time lead with 41, compared to Cory Kruseman’s 34. Mike Spencer of Temecula, Calif., seeking a record sixth consecutive USAC/CRA title this year, has 33 career wins and finished sixth in Saturday’s Perris feature after posting the fastest qualifying time.
