Fast Facts: Kevin Swindell

Nationwide Series driver Kevin Swindell comes from good racing stock – and that’s an understatement in the world of motorsports. Learn more about the well-rounded driver of the No. 98 Carroll Shelby Motors Ford Mustang in this week’s Fast Facts.

• Kevin Swindell was born February 21, 1989 in Germantown, Tennessee, the son of multi-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car champion Sammy Swindell. The younger Swindell began racing karts at age 5, but could only race during the winter because of his father’s racing schedule.
• Swindell spent his early years racing in many types of cars, including karts, quarter midgets and 600 mini-sprints. He spent two years competing in World Karting Association National competitions, winning two National Championships, a Grand National win and seven other races.
• In 2004, Swindell spent time in 125 TAG road race karts, working with former IndyCar driver Mark Dismore. In four weekends of competition, Swindell came away with three wins and eight top 10 finishes. Swindell also spent time working on his father’s pit crew to learn more about the mechanics of race cars.
• In 2005, a 15-year-old Swindell became the youngest driver to score a top 10 finish in a WoO Sprint Car Series feature event. He continued to race anything with wheels, including a stint in the USCS Sprint Car Asphalt Thunder Series, where he won five times in 10 races and set qualifying records at each track he visited.
• 2006 was a big year for Swindell, who became the youngest WoO Sprint Car Series feature winner at age 17, and also ran four ARCA Racing Series races for Evernham Motorsports. His tour of motorsports series continued over the next two years, racing in the USAC Sprint Car and Midget National Series for Kasey Kahne Racing in 2007 and adding on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East in 2008 and 2009. In 2010, he made his Nationwide Series debut.
• One of Swindell’s biggest accomplishments happened in January 2013, when he became the first driver to win four consecutive Chili Bowl Nationals (2010 to 2013), the most prestigious race in indoor midget car racing. Swindell’s father is a five-time winner of the “Golden Driller,” the race's trophy.
