Regan Smith to practice and qualify No. 48 on Friday at RIR
Don't expect to see Jimmie Johnson at Richmond International Raceway on Friday. Johnson and his wife, Chandra, welcomed their second child to the world early this morning.
According to a release, Johnson gave birth at 2:02 a.m to a daughter weighing in at 5 pounds, 10 ounces. Johnson released his daughter's name on Twitter this afternoon: Lydia Norriss Johnson. Both mother and baby are doing well.
Johnson clinched his Chase berth several weeks ago and had planned ahead should this happen. Regan Smith, who sits fourth in the Nationwide Series standings, will fill in for Johnson on Friday, practicing and qualifying the No. 48 Lowe's Chevrolet. Johnson is expected to return to the track in time for Saturday's final race before the Chase, though he'll have to start from the rear of the field.
The five-time Sprint Cup champion sits first in points after 25 races and has four wins to his name.
