After a 362-day absence from racing, New Jersey native Ryan Truex got back behind the wheel for the first of three NASCAR Xfinity Series races. His return to racing was facilitated through a partnership with Richard Petty Motorsports and Biagi DenBeste Racing, co-owned by Northern California business partners Fred Biagi and Bill and Lori DenBeste.

What started as the night’s feel-good story ended in disappointment as Truex experienced a tire failure and hit the wall in Turn 3 during the race’s sixth caution on Lap 215.

Truex last competed in the Xfinity Series in 2012. Most recently he raced in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, running 23 races for BK Racing in 2014. It didn’t take long for Truex to knock off the rust as he qualified his Carroll Shelby Engine Company Ford 15th.  He finished the race 31st.

Truex’ enthusiasm coming into the race was high.

“I’m very excited to be back racing again. Richmond is one of my favorite tracks. It’s one of those tracks I picked up on right away and had early success. It takes a lot of finesse and patience, and I’ve been fortunate to be able to learn a lot from the veterans of our sport. The key is to stay out of trouble and keep our mistakes to a minimum. If we can do that all night, we’ll have a great finish.”

Look for Ryan Truex at Kentucky Speedway on September 26 and Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 9.
