Fast Facts Redux: Alex Bowman

Alex Bowman has one of the most unenviable tasks in auto racing: subbing for a NASCAR superstar when another legend isn’t available. Learn more about this “super-sub” in this week’s Fast Facts, originally published in Aug. 2013.

• Alexander Bowman was born April 25, 1993 in Tucson, AZ. He began his racing career at age 7 in Arizona and California, driving quarter midgets. He eventually competed in USAC quarter midgets before moving into stock cars at age 17.
• In 2010, Bowman competed part-time in the Pro Cup Series, moving to NASCAR’s K&N Pro Series East in 2011. Bowman finished sixth in points and won the Rookie of the Year title in the K&N series. He also raced in two ARCA Racing Series events for Venturini Motorsports in 2011, picking up wins in both races.
• Bowman moved into the ARCA Series full-time in 2012 with Cunningham Motorsports, winning four more races, finishing fourth in points and being named Rookie of the Year for the series. He made his top-tier NASCAR debut late in the season, running four Nationwide (now Xfinity) Series races – two for Turner Scott Motorsports and two for RAB Racing. He signed with RAB Racing for a full-time schedule in January 2013, but was released before the season ended; Bowman finished 11^th in points in spite of missing the final race. Bowman continues to race part-time in the series, and made one start in the Camping World Truck Series in 2015.
• In 2014, Bowman competed full-time in the Sprint Cup Series with BK Racing, earning a top finish of 13^th at the July Daytona race. In 2015, he raced in the Cup Series with Tommy Baldwin Racing, with a top finish of 16^th at Talladega in May; shortly before the start of the 2016 season, Bowman and TBR parted ways.
• In July 2016, Bowman was named as an interim driver at Hendrick Motorsports, subbing for Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the No. 88 when four-time Cup Series champ Jeff Gordon is not available.
