Ross Chastain earned his second Gander Outdoors Truck Series Victory at the World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway on Saturday night, accomplishing one of the requirements to compete for the 2019 championship.
Chastain, whose win was disqualified last weekend at Iowa after failing post-race inspection, led 21 laps at the 1.25-mile track. Chastain took home the $50,000 Triple Truck Challenge cash bonus, the last race in a series of three events for the season.
“I didn’t want to take tires and then it was up to me to freakin’ hold ’em off,” Chastain said. “I don’t know how, but oohhh, I’m going to take that money home and they’re not taking it from us this time.”
Chastain must now make the Top 20 in points to be eligible for the playoffs, since the Niece Motorsports driver switched from earning Xfinity points midseason. He is 38 points away.
He held off Todd Gilliland after a wreck between Sheldon Creed and Harrison Burton caused a late-race restart.
Stewart Friesen finished third, Chandler Smith finished fourth, and Brett Moffitt rounded out the top five.
Grant Enfinger finished sixth after winning Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the CarShield 200.
A Look Ahead
The Gander Outdoors Truck Series heads to Chicagoland Speedway on Friday, June 28th.
Moffitt earned his third win of the 2018 season at Chicago. Can he earn his second this year?
Enfinger holds the points lead by 54 over Stewart Friesen. Gilliland and Creed are tied for eighth, which is the last seed for the 2019 playoff berth.
Don’t miss the NGOTS at Chicagoland on June 28th at 9 p.m/ET on Fox Sports 1.
