Trackin’ Trucks: Ross Chastain Wins at Pocono

Ross Chastain dominated at Pocono Raceway to earn his third Gander Outdoors Truck Series Victory of the season.

Chastain started second and led the first 26 laps, earning the Stage 1 victory of the Gander RV 150.

Chastain stood in Victory Lane and dedicated his win to Xfinity Series crew chief Nick Harrison, who passed away last week at the age of 37.

“I know we were a little mad because we lost Nick Harrison,” Chastain expressed, “We realize that everybody goes when it’s their time, but, man, we miss that big boy. These boys (on the Niece Motorsports team), a lot of them worked with him.”

“I got to work with him at Kaulig Racing this year. Man, we miss him.”

Tyler Ankrum, who won at Kentucky on July 11th, finished second. Harrison Burton finished third after leading six laps. Christian Eckes and Brett Moffitt rounded out the top five.

Stewart Friesen finished 32nd after making contact with Anthony Alfredo. Friesen got loose going into the corner and slammed the wall.

The Ontario native said, “I had a lot of friends and family here today, and I’m really, really disappointed. I wish I could have done more to last a little longer out there, obviously. We’ll be back — it just sucks right now.”

Friesen hopes to turn around his playoff hopes next week at Eldora Speedway, where he has a lot of experience. His best finish in the NGOTS is second at the half-mile dirt track.

A Look Ahead (Into The Playoffs)

The Gander Outdoors Truck Series head to Eldora Speedway for some mid-week racing on Thursday, August 1st.

Todd Gilliland is seventh in the standings with two races to go before the playoffs begin, while Austin Hill is eighth.

Johnny Sauter is 10th, 24 points behind Hill.

Can Friesen earn his first series victory and a chance to compete for the 2019 championship? Will another series regular take the victory? Or will a veteran dirt racer earn a win?
