NASCAR announced on Monday, March 16, 2020 that five more events would be postponed through May 3rd because of the COVID-19 pandemic. They plan to hold the events at a future time, though no date has been set.

NASCAR race weekends being delayed are Texas, Bristol, Richmond, Talladega, and Dover.

Their statement reads as follows:

“The health and safety of our fans, industry and the communities in which we race is our most important priority, so in accordance with recent CDC guidance, NASCAR is currently postponing all race events through May 3rd, with plans to return racing in Martinsville. We appreciate the patience of our fans and we look forward to returning to the racetrack. We intend to hold all 36 races this season, with future rescheduling soon to be determined as we continue to monitor this situation closely with public health officials and medical experts. What is important now transcends the world of sports and our focus is on everyone’s safety and well-being as we navigate this challenging time together.”

Last Friday, races at Atlanta and Homestead were postponed. That brings the total number of races to seven.

NASCAR’s announcement comes after President Donald Trump and the White House released new guidelines that included “avoid social gatherings in groups of more than 10 people.” and to “avoid eating or drinking in bars, restaurants, and food courts – use drive-thru, pickup, or delivery options.”

Texas Motor Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway, both Speedway Motorsports, Inc. (SMI) properties,  released statements allowing on-file ticket holders to use their tickets for the postponed event, receive an event credit for the full amount paid plus an additional 20%, or a full refund of their purchase price.

Fans are advised to hold onto their current tickets and are asked to complete an exchange request form on this website, or this website for Bristol. Ticket office representatives will follow up with fans within 2-3 weeks regarding the status of their request.
