UPDATE: All NASCAR races at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend and next weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway have now been POSTPONED. We're following the latest information for you and will keep you updated as we learn more.

NASCAR will race without fans this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway and next weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway, they announced Thursday.

“At this time, NASCAR will hold its race events at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway without fans in attendance. These events will be restricted to competitors, crews, officials and other necessary personnel to conduct the race. We will work with public health officials as we determine future scheduling beyond these events.”

The action is due to precautions taken against coronavirus, COVID-19, which has caused other professional sports leagues, including the NBA, MLB, and NHL, to suspend their seasons for the safety of fans and personnel.

NASCAR has not postponed a race for reasons outside of weather since September 2001, when they raced at New Hampshire at the end of the season finale because of the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks on September 11, 2001.

Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) released a statement shortly afterward, stating that ticket holders would receive a full credit good for any SMI race through the 2021 NASCAR season.

“Ticket holders on file for these events will receive a full credit toward AMS purchases for grandstand seating, infield access, camping, fan hospitality and pit passes. The credit will be applicable towards any Speedway Motorsports NASCAR Race in the remainder of 2020 or the 2021 season.”

Details regarding the credit will be posted on atlantamotorspeedway.com/exchange/ within 48 hours. Questions should be directed to the speedway ticket office at 770-946-4211.

AMS asks that fans wait for the posted details before contacting their box office.
