Trackin’ Trucks: Sheldon Creed Wins at Gateway

Sheldon Creed earned his third win in the Gander RV & Outdoor Truck Series on Sunday, August 30th at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.

Creed led the final 13 laps of the CarShield 200 Presented by CK Power. The GMS Racing driver held off his teammate Brett Moffitt, who finished second, while Austin Hill, Sam Mayer, Stewart Friesen rounded out the top five.

“I want to start with apologizing to (Gilliland),” Creed told FS1. “It’s so hard to pass here and I got the opportunity to get to his inside. Just was really loose getting in (to the turn) and he was close to my door. They were having such a good day. … Hate to do that to him. … He owes me one. Hats off to my guys. Great adjustments all day. Came from 17th. Had my work cut out for me.”

Creed also apologized on air to Todd Gilliland after contact between the two drivers sent Gilliland into the wall, which forced him to pit. After securing Stage 1 and Stage 2 victories, Gilliland finished in the 22nd position.

The win also earned Creed a $100,000 bonus as a part of the series Triple Truck Challenge. Creed earned $50,000 two weeks ago during the first week of the challenge.

Chandler Smith spun on Lap 78 of 160 laps to bring out the first caution of the day for an incident. Ben Rhodes was also collected, but rebounded to finish just outside the top 10 in 11th place, while Smith finished 24th.

Jennifer Jo Cobb suffered significant damage to her No. 10 Chevrolet after crashing in Turn 2. She finished 31st.

A Look Ahead

Only three races remain the series regular season before the start of the 2020 Playoffs.

Austin Hill leads Zane Smith by 28 points, while Derek Kraus and Tanner Gray find themselves on the outside of the secured spots in the standings.

Johnny Sauter is 15th in the standings. He is in a must-win situation to earn himself a chance at the 2020 championship.

The series returns to Darlington for the first time since 2011 with the South Carolina Education Lottery 200 on Sunday, September 6th at 2 P.M./ET on Fox Sports 1.
