Bubba Wallace Not Returning to Richard Petty Motorsports After 2020 Season
Bubba Wallace and Richard Petty Motorsports announced that the 26-year-old will not return to the organization after this season.
Wallace posted a statement on Twitter, saying that the decision wasn’t an easy one: “This was not an easy decision as I have nothing but the utmost respect for Richard Petty and his family, but I believe it’s time for someone else to take over the reins of the No. 43. … We’ve got nine more races together, and I hope we can finish the 2020 season on a high note.”
Wallace, who is the sport’s only Black driver in the premier series, has been with RPM since 2017. He has nine top-10 finishes, five of which have come this season.
The team released a statement on Thursday: “Earlier this morning, Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr., informed Richard Petty Motorsports he will not be returning for the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) season. We will complete the season with Wallace behind the wheel of the No. 43 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE.”
“We look forward to the next chapter in the making for the iconic No. 43 team. We will announce our new driver in the near future.”
Wallace has signed multiple personal service deals that can potentially follow him to a new team next season, including Columbia Sportswear and DoorDash.

You may have gotten yourself some publicity this season, but you really hurt Nascar, The Petty Name with your issues. If you get another ride and I assume you will cause all it is about now is who can bring the sponsors in, not about talent. I wish you could just go on and leave RPM now and take BLM, the organization with you. You drove a lot of fans away, and the fans you think will come out now because a flag is removed, there not coming unless you buy their tickets and bus them in like someone did back at Talladega. What a PR stunt. Good bye Bubba, can I send the Bubba T shirts I bought cause you drove for Petty to some good ole boys for shirt burning. BLM can burn the American Flag maybe just good ole boys can burn Bubba t shirts. You may have turned those boos you've been getting into cheers now that you are leaving the 43, nope the boos are going to rain in your head from now on. You are the Kapernick of Nascar.
