John Hunter Nemechek earned his third Camping World Truck Series victory of the season at Charlotte Motor Speedway Friday night, holding off rookie Carson Hocevar by a .419 margin-of-victory.

The win is the Kyle Busch Motorsports driver’s first at the 1.5-mile track and the ninth of his career.

“Hats off to all my guys, (crew chief) Eric Phillips , all my guys, everyone who works on this thing — everyone at KBM, the chassis shop, the fab shop…(owner) Kyle (Busch) for this opportunity,” Nemechek said, “I’m so blessed to be in this spot.”

“Hopefully, we can have some fun and celebrate tonight.”

Nemechek led 71 of 134 laps and collected the last of the three $50,000 Triple Truck Challenge bonuses, awarded to the winners of the designated races. Sheldon Creed won the incentive at Darlington, while Todd Gilliland won the bonus at Circuit of the Americas.

Hocevar finished second, while Ben Rhodes, Stewart Friesen, and Todd Gilliland rounded out the top-five finishers.

Gilliland overcame being involved in an early crash with Creed and Chase Purdy, giving Gilliland his fourth top five of 2021.

Johnny Sauter walked away under his own power after his No. 13 Toyota was demolished from hitting a slowing Trey Hutchens III. Sauter’s right-side paneling was completely torn off in the collision. Drew Dollar was also involved in the incident, but recovered to finish 20th.

A Look Ahead

The Camping World Truck Series return on Saturday, June 12th, at Texas Motor Speedway.

Nemechek sits atop the Playoff standings over Ben Rhodes and Austin Hill.

Sauter lies outside the playoff standings by 43 points behind Hocevar, who is in the cutoff position.
