GMS Racing announced on Thursday, June 17th that they have plans to compete in the NASCAR Cup Series starting with the 2022 season.

GMS Racing currently fields entries in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and ARCA Menards Series. They are the reigning champions in the NCWTS with driver Sheldon Creed, who drives the No. 2 Chevrolet for the team.

“GMS is always looking forward, and I believe this is the next step for the team in that process,” said owner Maury Gallagher. “We have the goal to be a championship caliber team in any series in which we compete, and I am excited to watch the team grow in the coming years.”

The organization is the second to announce Cup aspirations for the 2022 season. Earlier this year, Kaulig Racing announced reported their intent to compete full time with at least one Cup car.

This is the fifth new team in two years after the announcement of the NASCAR Next Gen car, which will have multiple parts come from single-source suppliers.

As a result, three new organizations made their full-time debuts this season, including Live Fast Motorsports, Trackhouse Racing and 23XI Racing.

Further announcements from GMS Racing and Kaulig Racing will come in the future.
