Racing Returns to North Wilkesboro Speedway

Last year, the North Carolina state legislature announced funds of $18 million for the revitalization of historic North Wilkesboro Speedway. Today, it was announced by Marcus Smith, President of Speedway Motorsports, that this track is BACK, seventy-five years after it first opened.

Racing will be starting again in August 2022, which is much sooner than most had anticipated. Major thanks should be given to Dale Earnhardt, Jr., for asking permission to clean up the track in December 2019, in order to scan it for iRacing, and getting the ball rolling on its revival.

All through the month of August, there will be racing on the original (not re-paved) asphalt.  Not just on the weekends, but all week long. Then, the asphalt will be removed, and in October 2022, there will be dirt racing all month long.

"Racetrack Revival" will be a multi-week grassroots racing event featuring multiple series on the current North Wilkesboro asphalt in August. Then, following removal of the pavement, Racetrack Revival will return for several weeks in October on dirt before a repave takes place in 2023.

At this time, no NASCAR “Big Three” National series events are anticipated in the foreseeable future (trucks, Xfinity, or Cup).

Tickets for 2022 will go on sale to the general public starting at 9 am on Tuesday April 19 at https://www.northwilkesborospeedway.com/
