NASCAR Fantasy Fusion: AdventHealth 400 at Kansas

Darlington fans were treated to three fabulous races last weekend. When the checked flag waved all three races saw three first season wins -- John Hunter Nemechek in the Truck Series, Justin Allgaier in the Xfinity Series, and Joey Logano in the Cup Series. Logano's win was the headline-grabber as he snapped a 40-race winless streak by unceremoniously moving William Byron and turning him into the wall. I'm not sure if Kansas can match the excitement of last weekend, but the way this season is going, I wouldn't bet against it.

This Week's Pick Strategy:
Kansas was the track you always circled for Kevin Harvick without even thinking. He looked good last week finishing in fourth after starting in 35th. I'll add him to my roster but I'm taking a let's wait and see attitude until after practice and qualifying. Now, Denny Hamlin, that's a whole other story. I think I'll keep him on the bench until I see some consistency.

Drivers with Most Top 10s (Last 5 Years):
By Race
All with 4 - Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick, and Martin Truex Jr.
All with 3 - Kyle Busch, Kyle Larson, Kurt Busch, and Erik Jones

By Track
Martin Truex Jr. - 9
Kevin Harvick - 8
Both with 7 - Chase Elliott and Kyle Busch
Both with 6 - Brad Keselowski and Kurt Busch
All with 5 - Denny Hamlin, Kyle Larson, Erik Jones, and William Byron

Recent Pole Winners:
2021 Brad Keselowski (Set by Metric Qualifying)
2020 Kevin Harvick (Set by Metric Qualifying; July 23)
2019 Kevin Harvick

Last Year's Race Winner:  Kyle Busch

The Likely Suspects: My Kansas elites are Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski, Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Larson, Kurt Busch, and Erik Jones.

My 2 Cents: My no-brainer pick this week is the new Daddy, Kyle Busch. My next picks are Kevin Harvick, Kurt Busch, Brad Keselowski, Tyler Reddick, and William Byron. I will complete my roster with Erik Jones and Cole Custer.

Second-Look Driver: This week's sleeper pick is Erik Jones. Erik has been running well this season, and Kansas is a great track for him with three Top 5s and five Top 10s. I think Erik knows that he is probably going to need to win to make it to the Playoffs. He may very well make that happen this Sunday.

My Final Four: Kevin Harvick, Kurt Busch, Tyler Reddick, and Erik Jones.

Points to Ponder:
  • The first starting position is the most prolific starting spot in the field producing more winners (seven) than any other starting position on the grid.
  • Hendrick Motorsports leads the series in wins at Kansas with eight victories, followed by Joe Gibbs Racing with seven, and Team Penske with six.
  • Eight of the 16 NASCAR Cup Series winners at Kansas Speedway are active this weekend. They are: Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano, and Kevin Harvick with three wins each; Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski, and Martin Truex Jr., with two each; Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott with one each.
  • Kevin Harvick (2014, 2015, 2016, 2020, 2021) leads the NASCAR Cup Series in runner-up finishes at Kansas Speedway with five second-place finishes, as well as Top 5s with 12, and Top 10s with 19.
  • Kevin Harvick leads all active drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series at Kansas Speedway in both average finishing position with a 8.906 in 32 starts, and in laps led with 949.
Remember, if you're playing Driver Group Game, make your initial picks by 8 a.m. ET on Saturday, May 14th and your final picks by 3 p.m. ET on race day Sunday, May 15th.

Enjoy the race!
