Jimmie Johnson Enters Into Ownership Agreement with Petty GMS
You can now add race team co-owner to Jimmie Johnson's resume.
The seven-time NASCAR champion announced he has entered into an ownership agreement with Petty GMS. Johnson also announced plans to run a limited number of races during the 2023 season, including an attempt to qualify for the season-opening Daytona 500. Decisions regarding his race schedule, sponsors, and car number have yet to be determined.
Johnson recently completed his second season in the INDYCAR Series where he raced street and road courses for Chip Ganassi Racing. He announced in September, however, that he had no plans to return to full-time racing.
Johnson calls the move to Petty GMS “the perfect fit for me.” He added, “If I’m going to commit to something like this, I want to make a difference and have something tangible to show for it when it’s all said and done. So, this opportunity with Petty GMS is all of that and much more.”
His next start in a Cup car will be his first as a non-Hendrick driver.
