Richmond Rain Cancels Xfinity and Cup Qualifying and Practice
Before the 2023 rainy season began, NASCAR formally approved a rain package for six oval tracks across all three national series, which includes Richmond Raceway. With rain falling all morning today in Richmond, it looks like Xfinity Series teams will be the first to try out the rain tires this afternoon for the ToyotaCare 250.
Rain cancelled both the Xfinity and Cup Series qualifying and practice sessions, which means lineups for both races will be determined by the current points standings. Justin Allgaier and Sammy Smith will lead the field for the Xfinity Series race.
Alex Bowman leads the NASCAR Cup Series standings after the standings reshuffle when Hendrick Motorsports teams had their points restored from the hood louver issue from the Phoenix race. Bowman will start on the pole for tomorrow's "Toyota Owners 400" which is set for 3:30 p.m. ET. Fans can follow the race on FS1, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
Rain also postponed last night’s NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour "Virginia is for Racing Lovers 150," which is set to run after today’s XFinity Series race.
