The final race of the regular season for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series started out with a hold for lightning, perhaps an omen for polesitter Ty Majeski, who spent a majority of the race leading laps – 168 of the 250 laps to be exact.
Corey Heim and Ben Rhodes took turns taking the lead away from Majeski, but Majeski battled back. Majeski’s commanding lead continued into Stage 2.
Majeski won the race off pit road at the start of the final stage, but was nabbed for speeding on pit lane, sending him to the rear of the field for the restart. It was Majeski's first penalty since last year.
At the beginning of the final stage, Carson Hocevar took the lead at the restart. Hocevar started the race from the rear due to post-qualifying adjustments. Majeski was not going away quietly as he patiently plowed through the field. By Lap 195 he worked his way to third, and at Lap 210 Majeski got the lead back.
As some of the drivers chose to come in for green flag pit stops, Majeski stayed out and set sail. In the end, he was to relive last year’s race where he earned stage points and led laps only to lose the race.
With just three laps to go Hocevar took the lead from Majeski and won the race. It was Hocevar’s third win of the season.
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series begins The Round of 10 Playofffs on Aug. 11 at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park (9 p.m. ET, FS1, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
