Stewart Friesen Transferred to Trauma Center in New York
Stewart Friesen has officially been transferred from a hospital in Canada to a level one trauma center in New York, where he will undergo multiple surgeries from injuries sustained in a dirt modified racing crash on Monday night.
Friesen, who is a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series regular, was injured when his No. 44 car jumped the cushion on the backstretch at Autodrome Drummond in Drummondville, Quebec, Canada.
The car barrel-rolled after hitting the outside retaining wall, caught fire, and was hit by a fellow competitor.
The series reported that Friesen was alert and communicating with officials and EMTs. Since then, his wife Jessica Friesen has provided updates to his social media accounts.
On Thursday morning the update included that Friesen has officially made his way back to the United States.
“Stewart’s injuries are extensive, and we are thankful that we have been able to get him to a place that has the experience necessary to complete all the surgeries that he needs.” Jessica Friesen stated.
“We are beyond grateful for Dr. Maresca and the staff at Canton-Postdam Hospital for helping us initiate the trauma transfer back to the United States, along with the amazing crew at Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance who did an incredible job keeping Stewart stable and comfortable during his transfer.”
Jessica Friesen also stated that she will try to continue updating as much as she can throughout her husband’s recovery.
In additional news, the penalty for his third-place disqualification at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park was upheld by the National Motorsports Appeals Panel. He is credited with a last place finish after failing to meet the minimum height requirements.
