Austin Hill Wins at Talladega
Austin Hill dominated during the United Rentals 250 at Talladega SuperSpeedway on Saturday evening. Hill led 48 laps and swept both stages of the Xfinity Series race, winning by a 0.105 second margin over Carson Kvapil.
The win is Hill’s fourth of the 2025 season, and gives back-to-back victories to the Richard Childress Racing driver at Talladega. Additionally, the win locks the RCR organization into the owners championship in two weeks at Phoenix.
"I raced everyone extremely hard and made a lot of big moves, but thought I'd raced everyone with a lot of respect and just did everything that we needed to do tonight with Chevrolet to get the job done."
"We're racing for an owner's championship, something that I wanted or want to bring to to Richard Childress and everybody at RCR and ECR. And now we get to try to do that."
Justin Allgaier finished third, Christian Eckes finished fourth, and Caesar Bacarella rounded out the top five. Blaine Perkins finished sixth, Parker Retzlaff seventh, while Leland Honeyman, Sammy Smith, and Jesse Love finished eighth through 10th place, respectively.
Saturday’s race included a lot of action that required the event to be red flagged twice for wall repair and clean up.
The first red flag occurred on Lap 18 after Sheldon Creed got turned going into the trioval. The incident collected multiple drivers alongside Creed, including Brandon Jones, Harrison Burton, and Jeb Burton, among others.
The second occurred after Leland Honeyman got tapped in Turn 1 on Lap 45. The multi-car crash included William Sawalich, Dean Thompson, Blaine Perkins, Connor Zilich, and Connor Mosack. NASCAR officials reported that Sawalich was awake and alert, but transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Aric Almirola finished in the 24th position after getting caught up in a late-race crash that sent the race into overtime. The crash occurred after Almirola, Smith, and Jeb Burton made contact in Turn 2. Almirola spun hard into the backstretch wall and momentarily got off the ground.
One race remains before the series finale at Phoenix. Smith, Jones, Sam Mayer, and Creed are the bottom four in jeopardy of getting eliminated from championship contention.
