At the start of the Cook Out 400 all eyes were on Austin Dillon who had the opportunity to score a three-peat, having won this race last year and in 2024. While that Cinderella finish would have been history-making, three hours and three minutes after the green flag flew, it was Joey Logano, not Dillon, who celebrated with a Victory Lane burnout.

The sellout crowd got plenty of action featuring 29 lead changes among 10 drivers. The strongest cars all day came from Team Penske and Joe Gibbs Racing.

Ryan Blaney led the entire first stage, getting max points. Logano took the second stage. And while Denny Hamlin is often synonymous with Richmond Raceway, it was his JGR teammate Chase Briscoe who led most often: eight times for 171 of the 400 laps.

The win is Logano’s second of the season, the 39th of his Cup Series career, and his third at Richmond Raceway, moving him up four spots in the driver standings to ninth. He's now tied with Matt Kenseth and Tim Flock on the all-time wins list.

For Paul Wolfe, the crew chief for the No. 22, the victory was all about the entire team firing on all cylinders. “Joey drove a great race. When the No. 19 got us at a restart, we were able to get the car where we needed it to be to pass him. I am proud of the whole team. The guys were flawless on pit road. This was an all-around great team effort.”

What’s the key to winning at Richmond? “Here at Richmond, you have to play the smart game. It’s all about understanding what your car has and what you need to manage the race,” said Logano.

In his post-race interview in the media center, Logano shared something that should give pause to the field. “We've been able to ride some momentum here right now. It's been a nice turnaround. We've been able to switch our goals from making the Chase to winning the championship. It's quite the turnaround in a month and a half's time or so."

Rounding out the top 10 of the race were Chase Briscoe, Austin Cindric, Denny Hamlin, Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, Josh Berry, William Byron, and Alex Bowman.

Next week’s race will be another short track, the Dollar Tree 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sunday, August 23 3:00 PM ET. The race will be broadcast on the USA Network, PRN, SiriusXM, and HBO Max.
