Carl Edwards Wins the Kobalt Tools 400

Las Vegas knows how to put on a show, and the NASCAR race was by far, an action-packed drama.

Hometown favorites Kyle and Kurt Busch both experienced problems in Sunday's Kobalt Tools 400, eliminating their chances at winning in their hometown. First it was younger brother Kyle who hit the wall after blowing his engine, the No. 18 later igniting into small flames, thus ending his day. A few laps later it was Kurt who brought out a caution flag after spinning, although there was no significant damage to the No. 22 and he was able to continue on after pitting.

The show belonged to one man, Tony Stewart. After leading 163 laps, Tony Stewart was plagued by a bad pit stop, running over his air hose and receiving a penalty for removing equipment from his pit stall. Tony and crew chief Darian Grubb took a gamble, opting for two tires while other teams went for no tires or four tires.

Stewart dominated most of the race and was leading when drivers pitted for the final time with about 35 laps to go. With his earlier stop being a two-tire stop, Tony and crew were forced into taking four tires for their final stop.

After the final pit stops had cycled through, Carl Edwards had resumed the lead and only 22 laps remained. (He had previously led 46 laps.) Edwards had a lead on the second-place car of Tony Stewart and Juan Pablo Montoya, who would alternate the spot between themselves.

In the end, Carl Edwards back-flipped his way into victory lane, celebrating like only he can.
