NASCAR set new qualifying procedures that went into effect today at Pocono, basing the starting order on first practice speeds and not having the go or go home drivers compete at the end of qualifying, this was an attempt to give everyone a level playing field.

Kurt Busch won the Coors Lite Pole Award with a lap of 52.45 seconds which was 171.579 mph. This is the 14th career pole for Busch and his first pole at Pocono. This is the second consecutive pole award for Busch and the third in a row for Team Penske. Just a side note: Busch is in his back-up car after a wreck in practice and barely made any laps in this car.

Mike Skinner failed to qualify after a crash on his second lap, his car got loose and he smacked the inside retaining wall. Thankfully Pocono Raceway had installed a SAFER barrier there. Skinner was ok and was treated and released from the infield care center.
