Fast Facts: Jeff Burton

Jeff Burton drives the #31 Caterpillar Chevrolet in the Sprint Cup Series for Richard Childress Racing. Here are a few fast facts about this veteran driver.

  • Jeffrey Brian Burton was born June 29th, 1967 in South Boston, Virginia. He is the brother of former NASCAR driver Ward Burton; Jeff is married to Kim and has two children, Paige and Harrison.
  • Burton began racing go-karts at age 7 at South Boston Speedway, claiming two state championships during his early career. He made his first NASCAR start in the Busch Series (now Nationwide) in 1988 in a car owned by his father, John; he won his first Busch Series race in 1990, driving for Sam Ard.
  • Burton made his first Cup Series start in 1993 driving for FILMAR Racing. He moved on to the Stavola Brothers in 1994 and won the Cup Series Rookie of the Year title, beating out brother Ward, Joe Nemechek, Jeremy Mayfield and John Andretti among others.
  • In 1996, Burton moved on to Roush Racing. In 1997, he earned his first Cup Series win in the inaugural race at Texas Motor Speedway; in 2000, he finished third in points, his best points finish to date.
  • Midway through the 2004 season, Burton left his primarily unsponsored ride at Roush for the #30 America Online Chevrolet at RCR, switching to the #31 Cingular Wireless ride in 2005.
  • In 18 full-time seasons in Sprint Cup, Burton has 21 wins and more than 230 top 10 finishes. He made his 800th career NASCAR start at Charlotte in the Nationwide Series in October 2009.
