NASCAR fans boo the First Lady?

We discussed it here before; politics and NASCAR do not and should not intermingle. But, in this case I am going to make an exception because of the cause.

First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden were honorary grand marshals for the Ford 400 Sprint Cup race on Sunday as a part of Joining Forces. Joining Forces is an initiative to hire and train veterans. Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden were joined by Army veteran and Wounded Warrior hero Sgt. Andrew Berry, his wife and four children in kicking off the race by shouting the most famous words in racing, "Gentlemen, start your engines."

NASCAR went "above and beyond” the cause, inviting an incredible 5,000 veterans, service members and their families to attend the race as part of their support for Joining Forces.

A great thing was being done, yet some fans booed? Put politics aside, not everything is a political message sponsored by … ! The veterans are the reason that Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden were there, so not only were you booing the First Lady, but you booed those veterans as well.

Earlier in the day, during the drivers meeting, Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden received a standing ovation. Would that be too much to expect from fans?

No matter your political views, Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden are the wives of our nation's leaders and they deserve that respect.
