NASCAR In Heels: Go Daddy ... Oh No Daddy!

The Great American Sport through the eyes of a single girl

We have seen it all in the GoDaddy ads featuring Danica Patrick, or have we?

Danica Patrick has become a household name over the past few years. Not only does she have an impressive racing career, but she is downright gorgeous, which is something that greatly attracts much of NASCAR’s male fan base. Really though, can you blame them? They have gone for years watching all these men of different personalities, shapes and sizes, and now a beautiful woman who can drive is thrown into the mix. And come on, they are guys … we all know how they think! I’m sure the words “ultimate” and “fantasy” come to many minds.

Now there is only one issue I have here, and it’s not actually with Danica, but more with Go Daddy and their racy, sometimes raunchy commercials. I understand Danica has a strong male fan base, but she also has a strong female following, and we all know that sex sells, but these are a bit over the top if you ask me. There are many that should be reserved for late night television, and others (especially the Internet versions) are borderline X-rated.

I have to give Danica props for rocking these situations however! She looks amazing in every commercial, and we see her excellent modeling talent shine through, but I bet there were some awkward moments on set!

This week I am going to look specifically at a few of the said commercials. There are a few I find funny, and many I find inappropriate!

Superhero Go Daddy Girls: This is the commercial with Danica and Jillian Michaels as the superhero and sidekick. All I have to say is Jillian Michaels the superhero? I don’t think so; Danica’s taken that one! I’ve got to feel a little bad for Jillian: standing next to Danica, looking feminine and nice, makes her look a wee bit more on the masculine side.

Speeding: This is the commercial where the female police officer pulls Danica over for speeding, and proceeds to strip and say everything in a “sexy” breathy tone to boot. If you watch the Internet only version, the police officer continues to strip and begins to grind the hood of the car, and pole dance on a signpost. This is one that I find quite inappropriate. How awkward must that have been for Danica? It is almost embarrassing.

New Go Daddy Girl: I will admit, this one made me giggle a bit! There was some hype surrounding the “New Go Daddy Girl,” and the commercial would make one think that a young, beautiful supermodel would be joining the lineup; however, that was not quite the story. After some descriptions from Jillian and Danica, Joan Rivers appears in a Go Daddy tank top and booty shorts! This is how you mix a bit of scandal with some humor.

These shoes are totally my style!

Now you all know these are only a few of many Go Daddy ads, but honestly I have similar opinions about some of them. There is no doubt that Danica has talent and beauty. I really like the fact that she can jump in the car and race with the boys, and then put on her heels and go out! There are very many people who thoroughly enjoy these commercials, but there is definitely a line that has been crossed several times. Also, with Danica’s increased appearance and popularity in NASCAR, she is becoming a great role model for young girls. If that is what a “Go Daddy Girl” should look like, and how they should act, what kind of message are they sending?

All in all, I am excited to see Danica full-time in NASCAR this season, and I wish her continued success! As my childhood role models “The Spice Girls” would have said, “Girl Power!!!”

P.S. I hear there is a very racy ad coming out for the 2012 Super Bowl; keep a look out! Avert your eyes if necessary!
