Kasey Kahne underwent successful outpatient knee surgery this morning after an MRI on Thursday showed a torn meniscus. Kahne had been experiencing swelling in the left knee which signaled the problem. This is not his first knee surgery- this is his fourth in recent years.
Following a similar procedure on his right knee in April of 2011, Kahne earned himself a third-place finish at Richmond.
Among other drivers who have proven to be successful in a post-surgery setting is Denny Hamlin, who won eight races in 2010. Hamlin had a similar procedure to Kahne’s.
The newest addition to the Hendrick Motorsports team will still practice, qualify and race during the season-opening Speedweeks. Hendrick Motorsports has no plans to have a backup driver in the coming weeks.
