Travel Tips: Daytona International Speedway



Daytona International Speedway will play host to double-header night races this weekend, the NASCAR Nationwide (Subway Jalapeno 250 powered by Coca-Cola) and Sprint Cup (Coke Zero 400 powered by Coca-Cola) Series’ on July 6th and 7th respectively.

The State of Florida is known for its beach areas, warm weather and a variety of vacation spots. Many race fans will begin making their presence evident as early as July 4th; therefore, I will be listing a number of activities that will occur starting from that time throughout the race weekend.

Volusia County, which is the home to Daytona International Speedway, is made up of a number of cities and I will share travel information about only three of them – Daytona Beach, New Smyrna and Ormond Beach.

Daytona Beach – The “World’s Most Famous Beach” is located in central eastern Florida and is known for playing host to both the “Daytona 500” and “Great American Race” and is surrounded by 23 miles of beautiful white sand.

-Local Attractions/Recreation:

· Museum of Arts & Sciences, there are a number of exhibitions that can be viewed at this 100,000 square foot facility. Admission prices: Seniors/Students $10.95, Adults $12.95 and Children (6-17) $6.95. New Smyrna - located 15 miles south of Daytona Beach just north of Cape Canaveral and has easy access to both Interstate 95 and Interstate 4.

-Local Attractions/Recreation:

· New Smyrna Speedway, Bright House Networks Family Fun Night, Super Stocks 50 and Strictly Stocks 35 – July 5th ($5.00 General Admission, Kids 11 & Under FREE).
· Smyrna Dunes, this 73-acre park is a nature lover’s paradise and allows for activities such as: fishing, nature trials, observation tower and picnicking.

-Upcoming Events:

· Fireworks on Flagler – “Spirit of ’76”Fireworks Show - July 6th (9p.m).
· Christmas in July - July 7th(10 a.m.-5 p.m.)

Ormond Beach

-Local Attractions/Recreation:

· Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens, features the historic 1885 Emmons Cottage
· Tomoka State Park, includes activities such as boating, canoeing/kayaking, fishing, hiking/nature trail and wildlife viewing.

-Upcoming Events:

· Independence Day Celebration at Ormond Beach, located approximately 10 miles from the speedway, cost is FREE.
