A familiar racer will be back on track this weekend. After having had to watch the Indianapolis race from home following a positive test for the virus that causes COVID-19, seven-time Cup champion Jimmie Johnson will once again be behind the wheel of the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet at Kentucky Speedway.

Per NASCAR guidelines, Johnson has been given clearance to race after testing negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus on Monday and Tuesday. The driver, who is currently 15th in the playoff standings, spoke about returning to the track.

"My family is so grateful for the incredible love and support we’ve received over the last several days,” Johnson said. “I especially want to thank Justin Allgaier for stepping in for me at Indy and being a true pro. I’m excited about getting back to business with my team this weekend.”

Following Johnson's diagnosis, four other Hendrick Motorsports crew members were tested for COVID-19. All tested negative, and all crew members for the No. 48 are scheduled to be at Kentucky Speedway this weekend.
