Chase Elliott preps for surgery instead of Sunday's NASCAR race at Las Vegas

Instead of getting ready for Saturday's Cup Series practice and qualifying sessions at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, NASCAR's most popular driver, Chase Elliott, was prepped for surgery for a leg injury he sustained today while snowboarding in Colorado.

Filling Elliott's seat for Sunday's Pennzoil 400 will be Josh Berry, full-time Xfinity Series driver who pilots the No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro for JR Motorsports, a Hendrick Motorsports affiliate. This will be Berry's third Cup Series event, with previous starts in 2021 at Dover Motor Speedway and Michigan International Speedway while racing for Spire Motorsports.

In a written statement released by Hendrick Motorsports Friday night, owner Rick Hendrick said, "Chase's health is our primary concern. He's spoken with several members of our team and is understandably disappointed to miss time in the car. Of course, he has our full support, and we'll provide any resources he needs."

Stay tuned for updates.
