Kyle Busch Wins GEICO 500 at Talladega
Kyle Busch earned his second win of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season on Sunday at Talladega Super Speedway. Busch earned the victory after a final lap crash sent the leaders of the race spinning.
Leader Bubba Wallace was sent spinning after his attempted block on Ryan Blaney went sideways and sent Wallace spinning through the field. The wreck resulted in the race ending under caution with the Richard Childress Racing driver in the leading position.
"It's been a little bit." Busch said of his first super speedway victory in over 15 years, "But it's really cool to welcome on a new partner of ours with McLaren Custom Grills to score a win with them with RCR and team Chevy to get that Camero in Victory Lane here is really good for us."
"Obviously short on fuel and just kinda stretching it. I don't think we woulda taken that chance, I probably wouldn't have taken that chance by staying out if it wasn't for the win in Fontana."
Blaney held on to his position to finish second, Chris Buescher finished third, while Chase Briscoe and Brad Keselowski rounded out the top-five finishers.
Erik Jones finished sixth, William Byron seventh, Christopher Bell came home eighth, and Daniel Suarez and Todd Gilliland rounded out the top 10.
Busch’s win on Sunday is the 62nd of his Cup Series career.
The GEICO 500 was sent into its first overtime after Ross Chastain battled Ryan Blaney for the lead. The No. 42 of Noah Gragson lost control of his Chevrolet. He collected Kyle Larson and Ryan Preece.
Multiple cars were involved with five laps to go when Joey Logano and Corey LaJoie made contact.
There was 57 lead changes on Sunday, with Blaney leading the most laps at 47, while Wallace lead the second most with 35.
Chase Elliott earned the Stage 1 victory and Aric Almirola earned Stage 2, squeezing by Elliott on the final lap of the stage.
The NASCAR Cup Series are headed to Dover Motor Speedway next on April 30th at 2 p.m. ET
